Marshall, Texas was founded in 1841, and named after U. Supreme Court Justice, John Marshall. It became the county seat of Harrison County in 1842, and by the year 1850, Marshall was the fourth largest city in the state of Texas. I have interviewed my grandfather, William Runnels to find out about his early life and school years. Here we find out about what my grandfather enjoyed doing for fun.

This is the journey of one woman and her family legacy. Margaret Rotzler Lee is the director and owner of Camp Fern, which is in Marshall, Texas. Her grandparents, Vernon and Maggie Hilliard, founded the camp for their only daughter, Peggy, to promote self confidence and independence at Fern Lake in 1931.
