Marshall, Texas was founded in 1841, and named after U. Supreme Court Justice, John Marshall. It became the county seat of Harrison County in 1842, and by the year 1850, Marshall was the fourth largest city in the state of Texas. I have interviewed my grandfather, William Runnels to find out about his early life and school years. Here we find out about what my grandfather enjoyed doing for fun.

Her grandparents, Vernon and Maggie Hilliard, founded the camp for their only daughter, Peggy, to promote self confidence and independence at Fern Lake in 1931. He was drafted into the army as a finances man. This tells what he remembers about WWII. After the war he worked at a sopeplant. He worked with cattle until he retired. He worked on the school board for 28 years, he started before they had to elect them. These are his thoughts on Marshall after 68 years of living here.
