I enjoyed listening to the soldiers telling about what they did and where they lived before they entered the service. Also we were invited over to the camp for a special events, like the first showing of the Nativity Scene. I often wondered about mixed emotions my father must have had, having those prisoners on what had been part of our farm and at the same time having his two oldest sons serv.

Cpl. Harman

Corporal Eldred Harman recieved training as a Military Policeman, and then volunteered as a guard at Camp Algona. He spent much of the last half of 1944 and early 1945 in Algona as a guard. Part of his duty was to assist PWs in growing a garden on soil that had been severely compacted during construction of the camp. In 1945 he was transferred to Europe where he continued to serve as a guard of prisoners of war, returning to the United States in late 1946.

Capt. Jenner

Captain Clifford Jenner was a young officer in World War I, serving on active duty until 1926. He was reactivated in World War II and served in the Camp Algona system for most of its existence. While on post, he was in charge of the Day Room, theater, and worked with the USO to get shows into Algona.
