Why is rain important? Why is rain important? Rain is droplets of water falling from the sky. Drops of rain fall from clouds because the droplets have become heavy. Rain often falls when cold air meets hot air or when clouds cross over a mountain. The Bureau of Meteorology records the amount of rain which falls. Weather forecasts predict whether it will be rainy so that people can carry an umbrella.
